During the first half of my career I combined academic law with professional
practice. For some years while practising in Bristol at Assize Court
Chambers, I was a Lecturer in land law at the University of West of
England. On the academic side of my career I have been a part-time Supervisor
at St. John’s College, Cambridge and examined for London University
on the external LL.B degree course.
I am now based in the Lake District, and undertake land law, chancery
work, inheritance matters, commercial work, professional negligence
actions, judicial review and general tort and contract cases.
During my spare time I cook, walk, play raquetball or squash and and
enjoy classical music including opera. I am an Associate of the London
College of Music. I am a qualified squash coach and referee (I have
refereed the likes of Peter Nicol, who won the gold medal in the Commonwealth
Games). I am a devotee and student of Greek culture and language.
Significant reported cases:
Governor & Co. Of Bank of Scotland v Grimes [1985] 1 QB 1179 (mortgages);
Bishop v Plumley [1991] 1 WLR 582 (inheritance);
Roche v Church referred to in Roebuck v Mungovin [1994] 2 AC 224
(procedural estoppel);
